125 pavement traders who have been selling their wares along both sides of Langu Bazaar, Vellore are now being allotted space to open shops at the old Fish Market Complex.
Kripananandavariyar Road, Langu Bazaar in Vellore is among the busiest streets in the city. Netaji vegetable market is also located here. Apart from this, a lot of consumer household articles shops, fancy stores, and book-shops are also located here.
There are many pavement shops on either side of Vellore Langu Bazar Road. The traders sell many items including fruits and vegetables.
With increasing crowds of people along this stretch, traffic congestion has become one of the major bottlenecks. People visiting the area for shopping park their vehicles across either side of the road and go for shopping. This increases the traffic congestion.
In order to ease the traffic congestion, Vellore District Administration decided to build a median wall in the middle of the road and this project is in progress.
In the 1st stage, the task of setting up 125 small shops in the Old Fish Market has been taken up at a cost of Rs. 30 Lakhs and is in progress.
Pavements with sheds (overhead covering) are being laid at the Old Fish Market. 80 more shops are to be set up in the 2nd stage.
The corporation officials explained that 112 to 125 shops are set up in the 1st stage. The pavement traders operating at Langu Bazar, Mandi will be shifted here.
A decision regarding the mode of rent payment – daily or monthly will be made after the setting up of the shops. Auction will be conducted for the lease/occupation and the shops will be given to the successful auction bidders and they will pay the floor-t=rent as decided by the corporation.
