Sampath Kumar, District Designated Officer, Food Safety Wing, Department of Food Safety and Drug Administration, Vellore, said they conducted surprise checks with private milk selling vendors near the Old Bus Terminus, New Bus Terminus and other areas in Vellore Corporation limit and found 620 litres of milk adulterated with water.
Officials of the Food Safety Wing of Department of Food Safety and Drug Administration, Vellore district, seized 620 litres of adulterated milk during surprise raids conducted at a number of areas coming under the Vellore Corporation limits on Monday morning. The officials destroyed the adulterated milk.
The official pointed out that the agents were let off with a warning for the first time but fine would be imposed on them as per the law if they were found to repeat this another time. “Such practices are unsafe and unhygienic for the consumers. In future, we will take action according to the Food Safety Rules,” he stressed.
