The effluent treatment tank of the leather industry near Ranipet, Vellore District collapsed causing the death of 9 persons who were sleeping in that area.
There are many effluent Treatment plants from the leather industries operating in the SIPCOT area. One of the effluent treatment tanks ina company burst and collapsed suddenly. The effluent started flowing out entering another treatment plant.
9 workers were sleeping inside the factory. They got drowned in the effluent water and suffered from asphyxiation and died in a pathetic manner.
Excpet for the watchman, Sampath, the other 8 employees come from North India. The dead bodies were retrieved through a special machine and taken to the hospital.
Search is continued for locating if any more bodies are there. The district collector & the Police Superintendent visited the place.
