Making Lord Vinayaka dolls/statues using organic material which would not pollute the atmosphere is in full progress at Ranipettai.
Vinayaka Chathurthi is traditionally celebrated every year with a lot of enthusiasm throughout the country.
This year, Vinayaka Chathurthi falls on 17th September.
With hardly a month left for this grand festival, making of dolls and statues of Lord Vinayaka is in full swing on Ranipettai.
Artisans engaged in making these dolls/statues informed that over the last few years, Lord Vinayaka statues and dolls were made from a chemical compound known as Plaster of Paris.
However, Pollution Control Board banned the use of plaster of Paris based on the fact/complaint that this material tends to pollute the water when dissolved in it.
Following this ban, material which will not pollute the environment such as clay, tapioca flour, paper-paste, and hay are being used to make Lord Vinayaka statues/dolls.
They informed that statues of Lord Vinayaka ranging from 2’ to 15’ in height painted with organic colours are being sold at Rs. 1000/- to Rs. 15000/-.
