As per the main aim of Tamil Nadu’s long range outlook for 2003, the state should become a pioneer in providing quality education. As per this, the standard of education in rural areas must be improved and the environment should be enhanced. The efforts taken by VIT University in this regard must be commended. When the basic infrastructure and environment are in place, students can learn without any diversions.

VIT Chancellor Mr. G. Viswanthan presided and addressed the gathering.  Since it was seen that college students in Thiruvannamalai had no seats, it was decided that desks will be provided for colleges as well this year. Our district happens to be slightly backward in the education front.

Sufficient teachers are not available in government schools. Most of the teachers are barely coming and going. They should not be interested in getting transfers. There should be a change in this aspect. There are many students who complete their education and remain jobless. They should be trained properly and appointed suitably. Teachers’ profession should be considered as a noble service and performed accordingly.

Old students’ Associations must be formed in all schools and colleges. When the students leave the schools and get aged, they can be utilised to improve the standards of the school.

The opportunity for higher education should be made available to everyone.

If the government employees donate their 1 day’s salary, it would be possible to educate all poor children.

Senior officials and university employees participated.
