Tamil Nadu government announced that the holiday on the occasion of Mohurrum has been changed to Saturday, 24th October as the Islam religion practitioners have declared 24th October as the day of Mohurrum festival.
Earlier, Tamil Nadu Government, in its list of Holidays for the year 2015, had announced 23rd October as a holiday for Mohurrum.

The date of observation of Mohurrum festival has been changed after the announcement by Government Chief Hajji. The New Year for Muslims starts with the month of Mohurrum.
The 1st day the month Mohurrum is arrived at the instance of full moon seen on the sky. The day on which the full moon appears is reckoned as the first day of the month and the 10th day from this day is observed as Mohurrum festival.
Full Moon was sighted in Tamil Nadu on 14th October. Hence, 10th day from this date, 24th October has to be observed as Mohurrum festival as per the letter sent by the state government Chief Hajji to the state government. The request was granted and the state government has now declared that Mohurrum Holiday is changed to Saturday, 24th October.
Earlier, it was reckoned that the full moon was likely to be sighted on 23rd October and hence this day was declared as a holiday for Mohurrum. As the date of sighting the full moon had changed, Tamil Nadu state government has released an order that Mohurrum holiday is changed to 24th October.
