India’s Ms. Deppika Kumari won a silver medal in the ongoing world archery competition in Mexico.
Another Indian, Mr. Abhishekh Varma won silver medal in the compound group.
World Archery competitions were conducted in Mexico City (Capital of Mexico). In the compound section, Abhishekh Varma performed well and entered the final to meet the talented Temir from Turkey. However, Abhishekh lost 143-145 to the Turkey competitor.He won the silver medal.
By winning silver medal, Abhishekh Varma earned the credit for being the 1st Indian win a silver medal in World Archery Championships.
Abhishekh Varma had won the World Cup championship conducted earlier.
Ms. Deepika Kumari competed in the final with 19-year old Soy Misu of South Korea. Ms. Deepika, who has won 3 silver medals in world archery championships, went down in a shock defeat to Ms. Soy Misu, who was competing in the final for the first time.
A last chance was given as they were tied with equal points in the final. In this last chance, Soy Misu won 6-4. This defeat shattered the dreams of Deepika Kumari to win the world archery championship.
