Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Ms. Jayalalithaa has ordered to pay ‘Pongal Bonus’ to all state government employees, teachers, and state government pensioners.
The state government will incur an expense of Rs. 326.85 Crores on these payments.
A brief on the press release by Chief Minister Ms. Jayalalithaa on Sunday (3rd January):
I have ordered release of ‘Pongal Bonus’ for all state government employees and teachers on the occasion of the special Tamil Festival Pongal.
The state government employees & teachers belonging to Group ‘C’ & ‘D’ will get a Pongal Bonus of maximum of Rs. 3000/- or 30 days’ wages for the financial year 2014-2015.
Government employees and teachers belonging to Groups ‘A’ & ‘B’ who have worked for more than 240 days in the financial year drawing a fixed monthly salary will also be eligible to get Pongal bonus.
Other categories of employers including full-time/part-time workers, workers who draw a consolidated monthly salary, employees under the mid-day meals scheme who draw special term salary, Anganwadi employees working in the coordinated Child Welfare & Development department, Workers who have been Panchayat Assistants in various villages & their administrative set-ups, contract employees, contract employees under temporary appointments, daily wage earners, and workers who were daily wage earners and made permanent later will all be given Rs. 1000/- as Pongal Bonus.
Village/town administration centres, the employees & teachers working in government-aided educational institutions, employees who darw salary working under University Grants Commission, All India Technical Education Council, employees who draw salaries under All India
Agricultural Research Centre, employees who draw salaries under All India Service Rules & Regulationswill all be entitled for Pongal Bonus.
All penisioner who draw pensions & family pension in Tamil nadu, former Village Administrative Officers (President & Karnam) will get a Pongal Bonus of Rs. 500/-.
There are around 20 lakh government employees & teachers in the state.
There are around 6 lakh persons who draw pensions or family pensions.
As per this, the government circles estimate that over 20 lakh persons will benefit by this Pongal Bonus.
