The Public Information Officer (PIO) of the Vellore Corporation to pay a compensation of Rs. 10,000 to 80-year-old Chandra Venkatesan of Vellore.
The Corporation office more than seven times and for failure to furnish the information sought by her under the Right To Information (RTI) Act.
The PIO to appear in person for the enquiry to be conducted by the SIC on June 21 along with a proof of the petitioner having received the compensation.
The Commission should not impose the maximum fine of Rs. 25,000 on the Town Planning Officer, who is the PIO under rule 20 (1) of the RTI Act, for having failed to furnish the information sought by the petitioner under the RTI Act even after a lapse of two years and six months.
The original petition was filed before the PIO on October 20, 2010, seeking information on why the property tax receipts pertaining to her residential-cum-commercial premises have not been issued despite her having paid the tax regularly.
