Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s birthday falls on 24th February.A motley of traditional and other modern forms of sports ate up the lion’s share in the Corporation’s 66-point celebration agenda for this occasion. Silambaattam, Uri Adi, Kutthu Sandai are included in the events.
The civic body is set to conduct competitions in over 30 forms of sports, including track and field events, indoor games such as chess and carrom and also a marathon run for 66 kms, Over 6,600 students and youngsters are expected to take part.
The celebrations will be on from the first week of February. The celebrations will also focus on several other welfare measures – planting of 66,000 coconut saplings, expedition of the storm water drain work around the city, etc.
The Corportation has also planned a number of schemes pertaining to women.These include kolam competitions, distribution of prizes for housewives who maintain kitchen and balcony gardens.A special cash award of Rs. 10,000/- will be given to babies born on February 24 in the past two years.
The Corporation will also focus on health schemes such as free ENT checkup camps, bone density measurements and anemia tests in all the 15 zones of the Corporation.The sports events will end with a prize distribution ceremony.
