A diploma level pilot courses on Library and Information Science (L.I.Sc) will be introduced by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for XI and XII students from the coming academic year 2014- 2015.
Since library is the biggest resource for learning, pleasure and concentration, the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2005, says that it is vital in future curriculum of the school to include Library courses essentially at all levels, stated CBSE Chair person Vineet Joshi.
Similar to the other courses, the Library and Information Science courses would be divided into theory and practical sessions and marks will be awarded 80 for theory and 20 for practical classes.
Based on the importance needed among students and teachers the lessons curriculum has been framed and that includes: as library information society, library resources, reference and information resources, library computer application and library management.
This curriculum will enable the students to efficiently identify, locate, evaluate and utilize the requisite information, Sadhana Parashar, Director of Academics at CBSE.
Also, the board says that, with the basic knowledge gained from L.I.Sc courses the students can also be able to continue their higher grade education or can fit them in right jobs after the school level.
