Aiming to increase the number of enrolments in the government schools, the corporation in addition to the supply of free notebooks, is planning to join hands with private operators and make public-private partnership.
Charter school is one such model that the government will soon implement. Such schools are already functioning in Pune and Mumbai. To note, these are schools run independently but with the public funding. Here, the funding and targets are to be handled by the government, whereas administration and managerial works are to be carried out by private operators.
The overall budget for education is reduced from 14.5 crore to 5 crore this year. About the number of student enrolments, the last year (2012-13) count was 96000 but now, it is 88000. Speaking to one of the corporation officials, he stated that the PPP method will not be implemented in all the schools. The requirement of various schools will be studied and the models will be applied. The corporation wants the government school students enjoy the same level of opportunities like that of private school students.
