In disappointing news for wine lovers, TASMAC shops will be closed on 25th, 26th and 27th of this month in view of Milad-un-Nabi, Republic Day and Thiruvalluvar Day.
A major loss amounting to almost Rs. 250 crores is expected to the TASMAC shops as the 26th and 27th fall on a weekend when sales are traditionally high. The average daily sales of such shops is around Rs. 80 crores, on festival days like Christmas, News Years’ and Pongal, sales can be as high as Rs. 400 crores, say officials.
The public have been stocking up on bottles from Wednesday as availability towards the end of the Thursday is doubtful. The wine shops have upped their stocks to meet demand.
