Students, teachers threaten to boycott Lok Sabha polls

Ninety-nine students of Voorhees College, Vellore, and S. Kumar, State joint secretary of the Association of University Teachers (AUT), have said that students of the college and teachers belonging to AUT, Zone-3, would boycott the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections if Thiruvalluvar University failed to take steps to publish the correct results of the November/December 2013 semester/non-semester/ choice-based credit system examinations.

In a jointly-signed memorandum addressed to the Collector, the students and the AUT functionary said that several students who wrote the examinations have been marked “absent” and “failed” in subjects, while those did not write the exam have been marked “passed” and given marks in the results published on the university website on Monday.

When they represented the matter to the college principal, he communicated the grievances of the students regarding the errors in the mark sheets to the Controller of Examinations of the university. But, the latter shifted the blame on to the colleges saying that they were responsible for the errors. The students and the AUT functionary urged the district administration to intervene immediately in the issue. “The students would boycott the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, and members of AUT, Zone-3, would also boycott the polls if the university failed to rectify the errors and publish the corrected results”, the students said in the memorandum.
