BOSS Linux to occupy state government departments soon

As Windows XP will no longer receive technical assistance from Microsoft Corporation from next month, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to install BOSS Linux, free open source software. An order from the IT department mandated to consider installation of BOSS (Bharat Operating System Solutions) at all state government departments. It also listed the various benefits of the software and pointed it to be easy to modify as per specific needs.

This switch over will be of great help in saving more on money. In case of purchasing closed source software, Windows XP, huge investments will be required which can be avoided by making use of the free one. However, it is to be remembered that the state government had been insisting on the change during November 2011, but the departments continued using Windows XP as their primitive OS. Now, upon announcement from Microsoft about withdrawal of technical assistance, they have now reconsidered the replacement.
