Mr. R. Nanthagopal, Collector of Vellore. Informed that a total of 312 personnel comprising 162 from Arakkonam Municipality and 150 from other municipalities have been drafted for dengue prevention activities in Arakkonam Municipality.
The collector was presiding over dengue prevention and awareness meeting held at Arakkonam on Wednesday,
The Collector said that 162 sanitary workers of Arakkonam Municipality have been engaged in cleaning activities aimed at preventing transmission of the dengue virus and the destruction of the mosquitoes which caused the disease.
He appealed to the public to prevent collection of water in coconut shells and broken pots and clean them immediately.
Water collected in such containers encouraged breeding of mosquitoes causing dengue.
Residents were asked to clean water tanks once in a fortnight to prevent breeding of mosquitoes.
At the meeting, Ravikumar, Manager of Ultratech Cement Company, Chitheri handed over on behalf of the company a cheque for Rs.10 lakhs to the Collector towards the implementation of various schemes under the self-sufficiency scheme in the Nemili panchayat union.
The fund would be used for construction of a community centre, drainage channels and laying of cement roads in Arigilapadi, Arumbakkam and Chitheri panchayats in the Nemili union.
