Appeal for expediting ongoing sewerage work

The Vellore Corporation has taken up works for establishing the underground sewerage scheme works on Anna Salai. To facilitate the works, the old bus terminus has been shifted to Makkan area and traffic diversions are in place in and around Anna Salai.

 Traders have petitioned to the district administration and Vellore Corporation urging them to expedite the ongoing underground sewerage scheme and ensure full-fledged bus services from the old bus terminus.

 There are thousands of shops selling their wares including textile shops, jewellery outlets and several other kinds in the surrounding locality. R.B. Gnanavelu, district secretary of Tamil Nadu Vannigar Sangagalin Peramaippu, Vellore said close to 3,500 shops in the area faced huge losses in the last few months. People are not coming to the bazaar area as it would cost them at least Rs. 30 to Rs. 40 for autorickshaw charges.

 Members of the Vellore All Cloth and Ready-made Merchants Association submitted the petition to the officials.

 The association’s president V. Kumar appealed to the officials that the old bus terminus should start functioning again and Kripananda Variyar Salai should be opened for two-way traffic flow for two-wheeler’s alone.
