Cable TV operators in Vellore district on Monday staged a protest demanding the monthly charges to be fixed as Rs. 150 from the present Rs. 70.
The demonstration was part of the State-wide protests organised by the Thamizhaga Cable TV Operators General Welfare Association (TCOA).
The cable operators said they were operating on losses as the monthly charges of Rs. 70 were insufficient to meet their monthly expenses. This included salary for employees, electricity and materials.
There are 1,500 cable TV operators in Vellore district. They said they agreed for the charges believing that the Arasu Cable TV Corporation would protect their livelihood. But poor quality transmission has turned several subscribers to DTH service providers.
They wanted the monthly charge to be fixed at Rs. 150 on par with DTH services and urged the Chief Minister to intervene in this issue.
