The electricity executive engineer, Mr. Malhotra from Delhi, announced that the power grid located at Thiruvalam Ilayanallur will be activated during the coming March, 2015.
In order to address the shortfall of power experience in the state of Tamil Nadu, The Power grid Corporation of India has undertaken a projects of transmitting power from other states through high-voltage transmission to Tamil Nadu.
A substation with a capacity of 7,65,400 kW is being installed at a cost of Rs. 100 Crores at Ilayanallur, Thiruvalam in Vellore District. The project started in 2012.
200 acres of land was acquired for this project which is progressing smoothly.
Another 765 kV substation is also being constructed to meet the power demands of Vellore district .
The substation construction has been completed.
A section is being test-run. Currently, 400 kV is transmitted to Kalivaradhappattu substation near Tambaram, Chennai.
The project is expected to be 100% completed by March for full activation. 800 kV will be transmitted to other substations in Tamil Nadu.
