Vellore District Collector, Mr. R. Nandhagopal, inaugurated the camp for administering polio drops for 3.75 lakh children.Annual special camps are conducted to administer polio drops to every child below 5 years of age with the main purpose of eradicating polio in the country.
For the year 2015, the first special camp for administering polio drops commenced yesterday (Sunday, 18th January). The camp was inaugurated by the collector at Vellore Government Bentland Hospital.
The city mayor presided at the special camp in the corporation complex.
3,81,822 children will be administered polio drops in the district. 2362 centres have been set up for this purpose.
56 special camps are located at all important bus stations, railway stations, and toll-gates.
13 special camps are being organised at distant rural areas without much transport facility such as Thongumalai, Jordankollia, Palampattu, Pudhurnadu, Athanavur, Yelagiri, and Kavalurchathiram.
Special camps are also organised to administer polio drops for the children of emigrant workers in the building/construction sector and Sri Lankan Tamils.
9028 employees and 277 supervisors have been assigned this task from departments of Public Works, Education, Social Welfare, Revenue, and Women Self-help Groups.
Vellore Corporation has special camps at the old bus station, new bus station, Ambedkar City Health Centre, Lakshminagar Health Centre, and Kasba City health Centre at 58 places. In addition, 10 camps have been set up in junction places where public meet/gather such as Circus, government exhibition fair, etc.
All senior celebrities participated in the inauguration of different camps. The district collector visited the camps to mo0nitor the progress.
