Vellore District Collector, Mr. R Nandhagopal, informed that 3250 temple priests were given welfare scheme aids under the auspices of the Hindu Religious Endowment Board.
The state government of Tamil Nadu has allotted funds through the Hindu religious Endowment Board for the maintenance of Hindu temples, performing Kumbhabishekhams, and a monthly financial assistance of Rrs. 1000/- for the temple priests.
As per this scheme, 3250 temple priests working in temples under the Hindu religious Endowment Board are being given financial assistance in Vellore District.
The temples in the residential localities of Adi Dravidas and Ancient Tribes are being renovated and Kumbhabishekham performed.
Around 77 temples in the above areas in Vellore district were allotted funds of Rs. 38.5 Lakhs and Kumbhabiskekham performed.
74 temples in the village/rural areas were given funds of Rs. 37 Lakhs and after the renovation, Kumbhabishekhams performed.
During the year 2014-15, 154 temples in the rural/village area were given utensils and lamps for performing poojas and lighting lamps.
10 very ancient temples were renovated retaining their old structures and features at a cost of Rs. 3.70 Crores. Annadhanam scheme is conducted in in 15 temples in Vellore district.
