Progress on the effluent removal after the tank-burst at SIPCOT tannery plant

Following the accident on 31st January when an effluent tank in the effluent treatment plant at SIPCOT Tannery plant when 10persons died, the activities are still continuing day & night to remove the harmful effluents which are stagnant in the area.

So far, 2900 tons of effluent has been removed. Another 1000 tons of effluent kept in a second tank located near the burst tank was also removed and sent to the pollution control department of the state government at Gummidipoondi.

Pollution Control Department engineer, Mr. Shanmugam, informed that the effluent removal activity is likey to be completed by Thursday (19th February).

As the effluent being removed have a lot of water content,  a decision about sending the same to Gummidipoondi after the effluent dries completely to be in solid form
