As high as 42.8% youth access higher education in Tamil Nadu!

education42.6% of youth (boys & girls) get access to higher educations in Tamil Nadu! This is the highest percentage in the whole of the country! This information was given by State Minister for Higher Education, Mr. P. Pazhaniappan.

The 10th convocation function of Thiruvalluvar University was conducted at Vellore Angilium Girls’ College complex on Tuesday, 17th March.

Tamil Nadu Governor Roasiah presided over the function and awarded to degrees to 96 students including 47 students who successfully completed their research.

Minister Pazahaniappan informed that the credit of founding Thiruvalluvar University, named after a poet who brought the lights of wisdom to the world, should be given to the former Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa.

When the former Chief Minister made the long range plans for the next 10 years (‘Long range Plan – 2023’) in order to make Tamil Nadu a leading state in the country,  she included education among the 10 most important fields.

Accordingly, activities have been initiated to ensure good infrastructure for more students to get access to higher education.

There are 77.7 Lakhs persons in Tamil Nadu in the age group between 18 & 23. Because of the various initiatives taken by the former Chief Minister when assuming power in 2011, the percentage of youth getting access tto higher education which was 18% iin 2011 has increased to 42.8% in 2014.

In India, this % has risen from 15% to 20%. In the world, it has reached 53%.

There are 693 universities in India. There are 54 universities in Tamil Nadu. Out of a total of 37204 colleges in the country, 3448 colleges are in India.

Out of the 59 Universities in Tamil Nadu, 27 Universities have been accredited with NAC Quality Certificate. No other state has recorded a similar growth.

Students who graduate should have the ambition to provide jobs for others. Their mental ability and creativity should be put to constructive use.
