The mountain-dwelling residents of Nayakaneri mountain village took siege of the officers who visited that are for inspection on Wednesday (18th March) and stressed for completing all the road works which had been stopped.
Rs.. 9 Crores were allotted for the development of mountain villages in the Tirupathur forest division. Contracts were signed and the project commenced. Rs. 4 Crores were allotted for building temporary houses at Rs. 40000/- each village.Rs. 5 Crores were allotted to lay plastic roads to reach the villages.
100 temporary houses were built at a cost of Rs. 40 Lakhs in Nayakneri village administration under the Ambut Forestry department. The project of laying plastic roads across Nayakaneri & Panankatteri mountain villages at a cost of Rs. 1,65 Crores was started last October.
Contractor Mr. Gunasekaran managed the project. However, he disagreed over some of the clauses in the contract and wanted to stop the work after filing a case in Chennai High court.
High Court ordered the stoppage of the project. However, Gunasekaran has filed a case again complaining that the project activities have not been stopped.
On hearing the case, the court ordered the Ambur Forestry Department to conduct a detailed analysis on this project and submit a report. Hence, Vellore PWD officials undertook the inspection visit to Nayakaneri mountain village.
Senor local officials were present during the inspection.
The local public of these 2 mountain villages have been stressing their demands for proper roads over the last 30 years. Even as this project was taken up, it has been stopped now due to court orders.
The local public took siege of the inspection officials and demanded the completion of the road work. The team pacified the crowd saying that the work was stopped due to court orders. The local public had already submitted a petition on this issue to Vellore district collector.
The developments leading to the stoppage of work due to court orders have shocked the local public! Thousands of public are affected for the sake of a single contractor & Rs. 9 Creores worth of project activities have been brought to a standstill.
