In an awareness campaign, Railway Protection Force has requested the women passengers to avoid listening to music through cell phones while travelling in order to recent incident like jewel-snatching.
Thieve indulge to steal & snatch jewellery from women passengers arriving from other states.
Several robberies & jewel-snatching incidents have happened in Arkonam as well.
Trains to Andhra move via Arkonam. After the recent incidents of robbery & jewel-snatching, armed police have been deployed for security.
Further, an awareness campaign has been undertaken to alert the passengers.
Yesterday (Tuesday, 28th April), Railway Protection Force Inspector Raju and his team of sub-inspectors & constables distributed leaflets carrying awareness slogans to the passengers.
The leaflets were distributed to the passengers in express trains proceeding to Thirupathi, Bangalore and express trains coming from Thiruthani to Chennai.
The passengers should be vigilant about their possessions. The women passengers sitting on the window-side can better cover their necks (wearing chains, etc) with their saris or duppattas.
Women passengers should be alert whenever the trains stop at stations.
When they listen to music from their cell phones, the passengers (especially women), tend to ignore the happenings around them immersed in the music. This lack of alertness is a definite reason for thefts. It is better to avoid listening to music through cell-phones.
Women passengers, if confronted by males with wrong intentions, can dial the ‘help-line’ numbers indicated in the coach. Immediate action will be taken.
