On the celebrated occasion of ‘Chithra Pournami (Full Moon Day in the Tamil Month of Chithirai), festival, a special procession on flowers-adorned palanquin with electric lighting has been arranged in Vellore.
The special flowers-adorned palanquin procession is one of he most important events celebrated on the day of Chithra Pournami in Vellore. Various service and other organisations combine to organise this grand procession of flowers-adorned palanquin.
This year, the processions will be conducted on 3rd May (Sunday).
On behalf of Vellore Jalaganteswarar temple, procession of the deity of Lord Jalaganteswara & His Consort Akilandeswari on the carriage of flowers-adorned palanquin will be organised.
On behalf of the Rice Granary, the procession of Lord Vinayaka on the floers-adorned palanquin will be organised.
On behalf of the jaggery Storage Depot, a procession of Lord Tarakeswara in the carriage of special flowers=adorned palanquin will be organised.
On behalf of Traders’ Street (‘Vanigar Stret), a procession of deity Durgai Amman in the special flowers-adorned palanquin will be organised.
On behalf od Vembuli Amman Temple administration, a procession of the deity of Vembuli Amman on a special flowers-adorned palanquin will be orgsanised.
On behalf of Motor Vehicle repair workshop owners’ Association, a procession of the deity of Vishnu Durgai Amman on a special flowers-adorned palanquin will be organised.
On behalf of flower traders’ Asociation, a procession of the deity of Lakshmi Narayana on a special flowers-adorned palanquin will be organised.
Thus, there is a total of 7 processions of different deities to be organised on Sunday, 3rd May.
The festival organisation teams of different temples are engaged in making arrangements for the grand procession.
In the morning on 3rd May, special abhiskekham & deeparadhanai are performed in each of the temples.
Flowers-adorned palanquins are decorated with electic lamps sand will start from the respective temples.
All the palanquins will join at Vellore Kripanandavariyar Road (Langu Bazaar) and it will be a grand spectacle to watch the procession of 7 palanquins on the procession.
The palanquins will proceed via Kamisery Bazaar, Filterbed Road, Anna Salai and reaqch the Gandhi statue in front of Vellore Fort.
Each palanquin will be competing with others in decoration and splendour. It would be tough to decide the best one.
Thousands of devotees are expected to participate and enjoy the grand spectacle.
Over 300 police personnel are deployed for security.
