India’s test captain Virat Kohli has told that this is the right time for the test team to pursue the path of victory.
Indian Cricket team has undertaken a trip to Bangladesh to play 1 test match and 3 ODI matches.
The test is scheduled to start day-after tomorrow – Wednesday, 10th June at Mathulla.
One-day team is captained by M S Dhoni.
Test team is captained by Virat Kohli.
A 20day training programme and physical check-up was conducted at Kolkata.
The team is scheduled to leave for Bangladesh today (Monday, 8th June)from Kolkata.
Earlier, there was a schedule for India to leave yesterday itself (Sunday, 7th June).
However, considering the Indian Prime Minister is right now visiting Bangladesh and the security aspects, the departure has been delayed by a day.
As MS Dhoni retired from test cricket rather suddenly during the country’s last tour of Australia, the captaincy has changed over to the hands of Virat Kohli.
With the scheduled test in Bangladesh, Kohli will duly take over as India’s captain.
His interview to the press reporters:
We have been learning quite a lot during the previous matches that we have played. Hence, there is not much new that needs to be learnt! In cricket, every player keeps learning all the time! We can learn quite a few things by simply watching the matches on television!
However, in reality, we have played in sufficient number of matches. So, we have to adapt by employing different strategies by playing well and to our advantage. This is the right time to start this!
WE are aware what we should achieve. We are eager to accomplish the same. Winning the matches is our top priority.
Physical check-up for the players was conducted yesterday in order to confirm their physical fitness. It seems that everything is fine.
This is a new series. So, all the players are refreshed and eager to play. I am also extremely happy and proud to lead this team.
I have captained before. During the last Australia tour, I learnt a lot while captaining the team.
Test cricket is a tougher proposition when compared to ODIs & T20s. We have to adapt strategies right from the 1st day.
This is a capable team. I am expecting the team to perform really well.
It all depends on how far we have learnt from our previous mistakes.
Ravi Shastri continues to be Indian Cricket team’s Director.
He also gave an interview to the press reporters:
When the reporters enquired whether the absence of a chief coach will affect the performance, he informed that there are 3 specialist coaches for batting, bowling, and fielding. So, another coach may not be required. If required, I will take over the duty of coach as well. Hence, it is not a major problem as such!
When asked how long he will continue as director, he informed that he will take a decision after the Bangladesh tour and in consultation with the Indian Cricket Board. There is nothing clear as yet. Maybe, he may continue for a longer time!
Ravi Shastri, while commenting on Rahul Dravid’s appointment as coach for the India ‘A’ team & the under-19 team, he told there cannot be more cheerful news for Indian cricket.
There can’t be a fitter person other than Dravid for this post.
Having him perform with the youngsters will prove to be beneficial for the senior team as well.
