Instead of playing games, youth were spending their time before the television and playing video games. They needed encouragement, first from parents, then from educational institutions and sponsors and, ultimately, from the government in order to achieve excellence in sports.
Many parents were concerned about their children’s academic progress. They wanted to see their children becoming engineers, doctors, scientists or administrators. Some parents even discouraged their children from participating in games, without realising that it would hamper their future.
