Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Ms. Jayalalithaa, inaugurated the new insecticide testing laboratory at Vellore on behalf of the National Department of Agriculture at a cost of Rs. 60 Lakhs by7 videoconference arrangement.
The inauguration function of the new insecticide laboratory, built by the National Department of Agriculture at Pallavansathukuppam village in Vellore District was conducted recently.
The laboratory was inaugurated through videoconferencing arrangement by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. Vellore Corporation Mayor, Ms. Karthiyayini, lighted the lamps.
Agriculture Joint Director (in-charge), Mr. Radhakrishnan explained about the features of the insecticide laboratory.
The laboratory has been set up in an area of 4000 sq ft at a cost of Rs. 60 Lakhs. The smples sent by the Circle Agriculture Assistant Directors, Agriculture Officers, samples from retail shops selling insecticide, and samples from factories manufacturing insecticides are brought here for testing.
The samples a retested thoroughly and reports are made and sent. Samples from other districts like Kanchipuram, Trichy, Thiruvarur, Namakkal, and Niligiri are also received for testing and reports are sent within 30 days after testing.
This facility ensures high quality insecticides to be used by farmers.
Local senior officials including Deputy Mayor, Agriculture Department Assistant Directors, and officers participated in the inauguration.
