The 20-day Masi festival began at the Kottai Mariamman Temple here on Tuesday. Special pujas were performed to the main deity and the holy flag.
A group of devotees from nearby villages carried ‘pala kombu’ (holy pole) and installed it before the flag post. Thousands of women devotees poured water on the holy pole and took part in the special pujas. With water pots on their heads, devotees took out a procession on Tuesday.
