New software to monitor TB patients taking 4-in-1 tablets!!

tablet1A new software, which facilitates to monitor whether the TB patients take their 4-in-1tablets (the usual 4 tablets have been converted into 1 tablet) on time has been introduced in Vellore district.

Government has been taking measure to eradicate TB (tuberculosis) in the country. Vellore district Tuberculosis Centre is located in the Bentland Government hospital.

Patients affected by TB come here for treatment. They get treatment and medicines.

There are monitors to check whether these patients take the medicines regularly.

Now, software has been introduced for this purpose and its inauguration was conducted at Bentland Hospital.

District Deputy Director (TB), Mr. Rajasivanandam, presided and addressed the gathering:

Around 5500 people get affected by Tuberculosis in Vellore district every year. Out of this, 2200 patients get infected with TB through cold & cough.

Another statistics shows that around 120 people are affected with AIDS with TB every year.

4 tablets are prescribed for cure including repambacim, ‘I. N. H.’. etc. As 4 tablets are given at a time, patients tend to hesitate taking so many tablets at a time. However, if they do not takt them, they won’t be cured.

The medical assistants have to monitor whether the patients take these tablets. This is rather difficult routine. Hence, it was decided to combine all 4 tablets into one tablet. New software was created to confirm whether patients take this tablet regularly which is fixed on the tablet packet.

When opening the tablet, there will be cell-phone printed in the pack cover. The patient taking the tablet will have to give a ‘missed call’ to this number. This will be recorded in the computer and a green light will be registered against the patient’s name.

It will show a  red light for patients who did not take the tablet. SMS will be sent to the concerned medical staff who will then take action.

Deputy Director Rajasivanandam handed over a tablet pack with the software to Microsoft Researcher Nakul Gupta.

WHO TB prevention consultant Delphina, Bangalore TB consultant Sundararaj, Service organisation consultant Martin Nioff, and TB centre staff participated.

It is notable that this software is introduced for the 1st time in Vellore.
