Vellore Mayor Ms. Karthiyayini was the Chief Guest who lit the lamp and then addressed the gathering:

In earlier times, mothers used to breast-feed their children up to the age of 9 months. I was always delighted to watch the gypsies as the mothers in their community used to carry the children hugging them close to their body!

If the children are brought in such close and affectionate environment, they will certainly grow healthy. However, mothers breast-feed their infants only up to 3 months now-a-days with a view to protecting their beauty! Thus, they stop breast-feeding quite early!

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has approved working mothers a maternity leave of up to 6 months. This will facilitate the child to grow healthy. Mother’s milk during the first 2 days of delivery is very important.

Mushrooms are supposed to be the world’s nectar. After mushrooms, mother’s milk is the second nectar in the world! Especially as mother’s milk contains maximum protein content after mushrooms! Mother’s milk can be termed as the first vaccination medicine for the infants.

Doctors advise to give sufficient water and apple to the children. It is always better to follow their advices. We should look upon doctors as God\s messengers. On their part, doctors and nursed should provide a smiling service without any frowns! Vellore government hospital is ready to provide any help required.

Departmental heads, doctors, and nurses participated.

On the occasion of the ‘World Breast-feeding Week’, the Mayor flagged off an ‘Awareness Procession’.
