Thiruvananthapuram: Anti-nuclear activist SP Udayakumar will contest 2014 Lok Sabha elections on a Aam Aadmi Party ticket. Udayakumar said that the AAP will make an official announcement soon. He said he will contest from either Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli or Tuticorin.
He told the media that he agreed to fight elections only after the AAP made its nuclear policy clear. The AAP told him that the people residing in the affected areas must have the last say in deciding the nuclear policy.
Udayakumar said that the Tamil Nadu unit of the AAP will be called Eliya Makkal Kachchi which means ‘Common People’s Party’.
Udayakumar has been in the news for his opposition to the Kudankulam nuclear plant in Tamil Nadu. His critics call him a ‘paid’ agent of the west. AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal, Prashant Bhushan and others have participated in his movement in the past.
