Inaugurating two-day VIT-BIOSUMMIT-2013 organised by the VIT University campus here on Thursday, Mr. Reddy said the employability of biotechnology graduates from India was only 12%.
Training institutes in biotechnology in different parts of the country to make biotechnology graduates employable, by K.I. Varaprasad Reddy, founder, Shantha Biotechnics, Hyderabad. Trained manpower, knowledge base, network of research labs, rich biodiversity and well-developed base industries, especially in pharmaceuticals and seeds are among the strengths in India. The country had many weaknesses such as the missing link between research and commercialisation, lack of venture capital, abysmally low R & D and lack of innovative R&D culture.
V. Raju, Vice-Chancellor of VIT who presided said that the university is focussed on excellence in teaching and learning in the areas of life sciences and technology, automotive and manufacturing engineering, digital imaging technology and energy and water.
