Black gram (Ulundhu) not sold inFair price Shops!

ulundhuPublic have been put to great hardship as black gram has not been sold at all Fair Price Shops in Tamil Nadu over the last 3 months.

Family Card holder regularly buys their essential groceries like rice, wheat, sugar, and palm oil from the fair Price shops.

As all the pulses are being bought at higher prices in the open market, the public get affected. Considering this, arrangements have been made to sell black gram & Bengal gram in the Fair Price Shops for family card holders.

However, black gram is not being sold at fair Price Shops for the last 3 months. Public were returned with the answer, ‘No stock/arrival’.

Family card holders are really confused – they wonder whether the stocks are being sold to open market. There have been no announcements about any detailed enquiry on this issue.

Black gram was sold at Rs. 30/- per kg in the Fair Price Shop. Now, when it is not available, the family card holders have to buy in open market at Rs. 80/- to Rs. 90/- per kg.

They complain the the price of black gram is being further raised as it is not available in Fair Price Shops.

Wealthy people can afford to buy at higher prices. However, the middle class and the poor sections find it hard.  They find the household expenses are unduly up.

Tamil Nadu state government should take immediate actions on this issue considering the plight of the section of people.

When inquiring about this with the distribution officials, they  informed that the state government has entered into a contract with other states to procure black gram. Back gram will be available again Fair Price Shops from May.
