Indian Technology, Science & Engineering Research Centre and the department of zoology in Thiruvalluvar University jointly organised a National Science Conference ast Thiruvalluvar University Hall in Sercot which commenced on 19th February.
Organiser, Dr. Senthilkumar gave the welcome address. The vice-chancellor, Dr. Gunasekaran, delivered the inaugural address.
Dr. K. Thangaraj, a leading expert in the field of cell & bio-molecule, was the Chief Guest.
He informed that there has been a lot of deforestation activites in the country. This reduces the space and livelihood of animals & birds. Animals including elephants are forced to enter public dwelling areas leading to heavy damages of crops, etc.
Deforestation also curtails the multiplication of different animal species. Around 172 animal species are decalred in the extinct stage.Hecne, deforestation must be stopped. Awareness about this must be created among the public.
A special publication on the conference was released by Registrar, Dr. Jayakumar. Coordinator, Dr. Panneerselvam, proposed the vote of thanks.The conference concludes today (Friday, 2oth February).
