The District Planning Committee (DPC) has allotted a sum of Rs.62.86 lakh for establishing a community grains godown in Thimiri panchayat union.
A resolution was adopted at the 7th meeting of the committee held under the presidentship of Leela Subramani, chairperson, at the Collectorate here on Tuesday. The DPC directed the Deputy Director of Agricultural Marketing, Vellore, to execute the work. R. Nanthagopal, Collector of Vellore, participated in the meeting.
Through another resolution, the DPC requested the State government to establish a Government Polytechnic College in Vaniyambadi, Kandili and Pernambut to boost employability of youth in these areas.
It noted that at present Government Polytechnic Colleges existed only in three places – Vellore, Arakkonam and Ranipet.
The DPC also appealed to the government to start a Government Siddha Medical College, Government Ayurveda Medical College and Government Unani Medical College in Vellore district. It requested the government to establish an employment training centre for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Vellore district to enable the youth from these communities to get special training for employment in government departments and public sector undertakings.
The District Planning Committee appealed to the government to allot funds to Vellore district for the purchase of vehicles for operating mobile veterinary dispensaries in all the 20 panchayat unions in the district.
