Consolation meeting with government employees to collect funds for Higher education endowment fund for economically backward students’ higher education!

edu1A meeting was organised with the specific purpose of collecting funds for the higher education of poor students at VIT, Vellore.

Vellore District Government Employees’ Union, Teachers’ Association representatives, prominent officials of VIT University, and Higher Education Endowment officials participated in this review meeting.

Higher Education Endowment President and VIT Chancellor, Mr, G. Viswanathan presided over this meeting. He addressed the gathering:

VIT University has organised forming a higher education endowment to locate & facilitate the economically backward students to pursue higher education.

Accordingly, 851 students (boys & girls) have been offered scholarship to pursue higher education through this endowment. This is the first phase when these students are from the 7 constituencies Katpadi, Vellore, Dam, Ranippettai, Gudiyatham, K V Kuppam, and Ambur out of the total 13 Assembly constituencies in Vellore district. A total education fund of Rs. 85 lakhs has been given as the higher education fund.

This year (2015), the remaining constituencies – Arcot, Vaniyambadi, Thirupathur, Jolarpettai, Arkonam, and Sholingur constituencies –and also including the Jamunamarathur Mountain-range community children in Thiruvannamalai district will be benefited with this fund.

More funds are really required for this scheme as the number of students is always increasing. Hence, it has been decided to approach the public, business entrepreneurs, and service organisations for this purpose by organising consultation meetings.

The current meeting was held with government employees and teachers. The participants were requested to come forward to donate their 1-day salary towards this fund.
