Universites should come up frugal innovations to find cost effective technological solutions to social problem said to W.Selvamurthy,Distinguised Scientist and Chief Controller,Defence Research and Development Organisation(DRDO).
Delivering the 8th convocation of Thiruvalluar University on the Auxilium College compus here on monday.
Dr.Selvamurthy should encourage innovation in socially relavent areas such as water,food and health securities.

pointing out the unversities received vrey little technologicl support for research and were therfore straved of resraech infrastructuer,the DRDO offical asked the universities to harness all funding resource available from various sources.
DR. Selvamurthy said the DRDO spent Rs. 300 crore annually 10 percent of its anuual buget for academic funding.”The DRDO is planing to increase it to at least Rs.1000 croce.”The DRDO was looking for academic partners to do research.
K.Rosaiah,Governor and Chancellor of Thiruvalluar University presided over the convocation and presented the diplomas and prize to 56 candidates comprising 33 undergraduate and 23 postgraduate and also Ph.D degrees to 22 candidates.
P.Gunasekaran,vicechancellar of Thiruvalluar university who welcome the gathering said the university has been identified as one of the nine universities in the state for receiving financial support from Tamil Nadu.
The state government has identified the university for setting up a research center in Mathematics to ensure quality research,and has made provision for the same,he said.
Apurva Varma,Principal Secretary,Department of Higher Education and G.Jayachandran,Secretary,Law Department Participated in the convocation.
