Vellore district has urged the Centre and Tamil Nadu governments to ensure release of 20 tmc of Cauvery water into Palar River every year. In order to recharge the groundwater resources of Palar which feed the combined drinking water supply schemes of five districts.
A resolution to this effect was passed at the district administrative committee meeting of the party held under the presidentship of A.C. Samikannu, district secretary at Katpadi on Tuesday, the meeting also urged the Vellore district administration to take measures on a war-footing to protect the Palar River from the continuing pollution by tannery and chemical.
