Fire-fighting squads made a demonstration to the students on how to escape from fire accidents in case of fire in the schoo premises.An awareness programme on’Natural calamities’ was conducted at the Vellore Sathuvachary Holy Corss High School yesterday (22nd January).
Deputy Director of North-east region of Fire-fighting department, Ms. Meenatchi Vijayakumar presided on the occasion.
Demonstrations were given on the treatment to be given to the fire-injured patients and to administering first-aid and carrying them on the ambulance.
Demonstration was given how to extinguish the fire both inside & outside the school premises.
The students observed the demonstration with eagerness & entusisam. The deputy director advised that higher class students should be having classes on upper floors of the multi-storeyed buildings and the lower classes students must be accommodated on the ground floor.
It is observed that about 90% of fire-accidents in Vellore are due to garbage heaps.
A fire fighting engine of lower capacity has been provided at Thirupathur fire-fighting office.
Fire-fighting officials & all students participated.
