District Collector: 140 village administrations to implement sold waste management plan!

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, in his 2015-16 budget speech,r has announced that 2000 village administrations will take up implementation of solid waste management plan in the first phase out of  12524 village administrations inj Chennai.

Accordingly, the state government has decided to implement this plan in village administrations situated near cities, village administrations with tourist attractions, village administrations with large bus terminus/ railways stations, village administrations situated near National Highways will all be selected.

In Vellore district, 140 village administrations have been selected as per this plan.

Solid waste management includes collections of waste, segregation as decomposable & non-decomposable waste, and removing them safely.

Decomposable waste will be filled up in fertiliser pits. Non-decomposable & non-recyclable waste will be filled in cleaning pits without any harm to groundwater & the lands.

Recyclable waste such as plastic will be sold by the village administration.

1 service employee per every 150 families will be appointed in the solid waste management scheme.  They wail be known cleanliness guards.

The village poverty eradication association & village administration, under the Tamil Nadu Women self-help Development Centre, will be responsible for paying salaries t o these employees and monitoring them.

Soild waste management scheme will be implemented by the village administration. 3-wheeler carts, machinery for cutting & recycling plastic waste, aprons, ID cards, and gloves for service employees will be given from the funds aloocated for solid waste management scheme.

A training on this scheme is set to be conducted today (Monday, 20th April) for the village administration heads, members of the village poverty eradication association, and members of the village women self-help development centre. Raining to the ‘cleanliness guards’ or the service employees will be conducted later.

Whole-hearted public cooperation is requested from the people of all selected villages.
