Launching a scathing attack on the Congress-led UPA government and appealing to the voters to end family rule at the Centre, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has called upon the electorate to empower her to play a prime role in the new government by giving a clear mandate in favour of the AIADMK in the Lok Sabha elections.
“As our sacrifices and the intense struggle ended the British rule in the country, this time our votes that ended family rule in Tamil Nadu should wipe-out the family rule at the Centre. Empower me through your votes for country’s progress,” said Ms. Jayalalithaa while mobilising support for party candidate D. John Thangam at Nagercoil on Sunday.
Addressing a rally, she said the scam-ridden Centre’s economic policies had resulted in skyrocketing of prices of essential commodities and hence her government had to launch welfare schemes though it caused heavy financial burden on the State government. Listing out the welfare schemes being implemented in the State after the AIADMK assumed office in 2011, Ms. Jayalalithaa said she could not achieve the actual growth envisaged for Tamil Nadu owing to the non-cooperation and step-motherly attitude of the Central government which was supported by the Karunanidhi-led Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
Whenever she mentioned issues like Cauvery water dispute, delay in forming Cauvery River Water Management Board, retrieval of Katchatheevu, reduction of electricity and kerosene quota to Tamil Nadu and attack on Tamil fishermen by Sri Lankan Navy, the crowed acknowledged with huge applause and slogans against the Congress and the DMK. “We’ll wipe out the Congress and the DMK,” the crowd roared.
On the issue of giving increased reservation to Muslims in education and employment, Ms. Jayalalithaa said it was her government that sent the proposal in this connection to the State Backward Class Welfare Commission in 2006 in a bid to fulfil the Supreme Court’s earlier directive and the Mandal Commission’s recommendation. The Karunanidhi-led DMK government that subsequently came to power did not do anything to give legal backing to the Justice Janardhanan-led Commission’s recommendation,” she said.
“Support the AIADMK’s candidates to teach an unforgettable lesson to the Congress and the DMK and to make the country numero uno,” Ms. Jayalalithaa said.
