With the approaching General Assembly elections in the state of Tamil Nadu, the Election Commission is in full swing in operations regarding fixing the dates for election, and the preparatory activities for the elections.
In a recent development, the facility for the voters to enable knowing who they voted is being introduced in 17 constituencies.
It is to be noted that his facility was introduced during the last parliamentary elections in Chennai Metro City. Now, it is being introduced for the 1st time in General Assembly Elections.
An election official explained how this facility to know ‘who we voted’ works. When the voter chooses his selection of the candidate against his symbol, there will be a ‘beep’ sound. At this moment, the selection of the candidates by the voter gets confirmed by being printed on the machine and kept in side. This bit of paper can be seen via a small mirror fitted in the machine. The printed piece of paper will remain inside the machine. This cannot be removed. The functions of this machine will be explained to the election officials who will be trained.
Tuticorin is one of the constituencies where this facility is set to be introduced. The district collector Mr. M. Ravikumar explained that 2050 voting machines and 3530 controllers have been transported to Tuticorin from Gujarat & Maharashtra States. They have been kept safely in the office of the Cooperative Administration in Pudhukottai.
The 1st stage operations of these machines will be conducted on 17th, 18th, 19th, & 20th this month. Engineers from BEL, Bengaluru are visiting for this purpose.
