A daily-wage earner, who ekes out his living by plucking coconuts from trees in KRP Dam in Krishnagiri district, was one of the lucky girls from the poorer sections in Tamil Nadu to got admission to an engineering programme in VIT University, Vellore.
The Government Higher Secondary School, KRP Dam, Krishnagiri district and secured 1191 marks in the Class XII public exams this year was admitted to M.S. Software Engineering in VIT under its (STARS) Support The Advancement of Rural Students scheme.
The scheme is A. Ramkumar who studied at the Pammadhupuram Government Higher Secondary School in Thiruvallur district and secured 1153 marks.
The STARS scheme was held on Saturday. G. Viswanathan, VIT Chancellor handed over the seat allotment letters to the selected students. He appealed to the students to study well and make their families prosper.
