Usage of plastic items is banned with effect from 15th August in all city administration zones in Vellore district.
Vellore district collector Mr. Nandhagopal has asked all government servants tgo stop usage of plastic items gradually.
A meeting was organised regarding the banning usage of plastic items in all 16 city administration units in Vellore district on Thursday, 6th August in the Office of the District Collector.
The collector addressed the gathering.
It has become critically necessary educate the public about the awareness to stop using plastic items because of the harms.
Use of plastic of items, especially to serve food, should be immediately stopped in all government offices and research centres.
Vellore district should claim the honour of being completely free from plastic items which are environmental hazards. Bags, cups/tumblers, plates, and bowls made from things other than plastic must be used in restaurants and hotels.
Action should be taken to ban use of plastic bags and other plastic articles.
3 stages of activities – teaching, implementation, and compulsion – can be undertaken in order to create this awareness among the public.
A fine of up to Rs. 1 lakh must be levied on traders who continue to keep plastic bags and other plastic items.
He distributed pamphlets on this awareness made in textile to the participants – revenue department staff, executive officers, and women’s groups.
