Good rains at Vellore and surroundings

There have been incessant rains at Vellore and surroundings for the last few days.

It has been raining over the last 3 days in Ambur, Vaniyambadi, Thirupathur, Kudiyatham, Anaikkakattu, Ranippettai, Arkadu, Wallaja, Sholinghur and Arakaonam of Vellore District.

However, as the rains were not that heavy, schools remained open yesterday in Vellore District.

Death Trap

Roads have been damaged due to the incessant heavy rains. In the National Highway section between Vellore & Arani, a death trap has formed  due to land erosion because of heavy rains. As thousands of vehicles operate in this route, the public expects early repair & restoration.

The highest rainfall of 32.2 mm was recorded in Kudiyatham in Vellore District. There were continuous & widespread rains throughout yesterday.

Recorded rainfall in mm in other places apart from Kudiyatham: Alankayam – 30.4, Vellore – 25.8, Arcot – 22.2, Ambur -22, Melalathur – 19.4, Kaveripakkam – 8.4, Sholinghur – 7, Vaniyambadi – 5.6, Arakonam – 4, Thirupathur – 3.1, and Wallaja -3.

A total of 183.10 mm and an average rainfall of 15,26 mm have been recorded.

With the groundwater level rising after the continuous rains, the farmers and the public are pleased.
