Madhanur Panchayat, under Agaramseri village administration in Vellore district, conducted a grama-sabha meeting on the occasion of Republic Day.
Panchayat president, Mr. Panneer presided over the function.
Panchayat vice-president & Village administration vice-president participated.
Vellore district collector, Mr. Nandhagopal, was the Chief Guest.
Highlights of his address:
- Grama-sabhas are being conducted for transparency in administration and to stress that power lies in the hands of the public. The government has been carrying out several schemes for the upliftment of rural people.
- Plans worth around Rs. 1.25 Crores have been carried out during the current year 2014-15 in Agaramchery administration. The village has been adopted by Member of Parliament, Mr. Dutt.
- All basic amenities will be provided in the village.This should serve as amodle for other villages to follow.
- There has been a rainfall of 703 mm in Vellore district as aganis the expected 971 mm. Also, not much quantity of water is available in the river Palaru. These 2 factors have resulted in drinking water shortage.
- Activities have been undertaken to augment this shortage. A project to bring water from Mettur Dam through Kaveri Drinking water project is nearing completion.
- Dengue is under control in Vellore district.
- People should develop the habit of growing trees in every village.
- They should avoid use using plastic materials.
