High-profit from the mango variety ‘Maa’!

Mango1Arani Assistant Agricultural Director, Ms. A M Santhi has informed that farmers can make higher profits with high-yielding variety of mango, known as ‘Maa’!

Variety: Neelam,. Banagalora, Naduchaalai, Sendhura, Himayugin, Kalepadu, Rumani, Malgova, Myur-1, Alphonsa Sindhu

Hybrid varieties: Periyakulam-1, Mallika, Amarapali, Manjira, Arka Aruna, Arka Punit, Arka Nilkiran, Sindhu Salem, Bangalora

Soil & climate: Red sand soil with good drainage system is good for planting ‘Maa’ trees.

The pH of the soil should be between 6.5 & 8 (Acidity/alkalinity level).

July to December is the best period for planting ‘Maa’.

Preparing the land: Plough the land well. Dig holes of the size 1 metre (length), 1 metre breadth) , and 1 metre depth  15 days before plantation.

10 kg of farmyard manure, 100 gm of lintane, should be mixed throroughly with the top soil and three-fourth of the dug hole should be filled.

Inter-space for hybrid plants

Hypbrid plant must be planted at the centre of the pit.

A space of 6 to 10 metres should be kept between each plant.

High-density planting can be adopted for Alphonsa, Banganapalli, Mallika, etc.

Frequent watering must be done till the plants grow well.

Vegetable, pulses, etc can be planted in the spaces, Each tree must be fed with 1 kg of manure.

Fertilisers should be administered during September/October depending on the age of the plants by filling it from the bottom up to 45-90 cm height. Then, water should be fed.

Fertilisers Ingredients for 1 hectareshould be administered at 1kg per month – dried leaves, etc – o,2, Mani – 0.2, Ash – o,3 during the 1styear.

After 6 years, dried leaves – 1, Mani -1, Ash – 1.5, Complex – 10:26:26.

Quantity of urea: 1st year – 1 kg per tree, yearly: complex – 12, urea 0.2

After 6years: complex 4.0, Urea 1,3. Potash – 0.840

Remove the dense branches during August/September every year. Allow only the healthy branches to grow. To prevent the young berries from dropping and increase the quantity of berries, administer the mixture of NAA (growth catalyst)1 ml in 50 litres of water.

For the trees which had not flowered, administer.5 % urea or 1% Potassium Nitrate solution.

Insects: Spray Fasalone 35 EC 1.5 ml in 1 litre of water on the branches, stem, and leaves.

Or administer carbaryl 50% & 2 gm of soluble sulphur in 1 litre of water and spray 2 times in 15 days whent the trees about to flower.

Ashwini sedhil insect, Thandu thulaippan, fruit fly, ash disease, spot leaf, Karumpoonjaan disease, etc can be treated as per the advice of the agricultural officers.

Harvest: From March to June.

The yield will vary depending on the variety & the spacing between the trees.
