India Spin Bowler Aswin’s lament: This is not the country for bowlers!

AswinThis year’s IPL has given India spin bowler Aswin, 2  kinds of experience.

When Aswin bowled exceedingly well in matches conducted in Chennai, he was struggling to perform in away-matches. He bowled only 4 overs in a total of 3 away-matches.This led to the prospects of him being dropped from the team.

When talking about his poor performances in away-matches, Aswin explained that he is really interested in bowling his allotted 4overs. However, there are 6 bowlers in the team and the the bowler has to be selected purely as per the situation in the match.

If the opening overs perform well, there is no chance to bowl in the first 10 overs.

It is also difficult to bowl 4 overs in the final 10 overs of the match.

I have to bowl as I think. The release of the ball from my hand appears ok. Hence, I expect to take a wicket from each of my balls!

What about other bowlers in Chennai Super Kings team?

They have left a lot of grass on the pitch to enable Indian Quick bowlers to perform better in foreign pitches. Hence, these pitches help the quick bowlers. However, they pose a challenge to the spin bowlers.

Under these circumstances, even when they take wickets, the spinners give away 35 to 40 runs. This is the situation so far.

What about Asish Nehra?

When I played first for India, Nehra was the leading bowler. In India, we tend to underestimate the bowlers. This is not the country for bowlers. It is rather difficult to understand the bowlers. We tend to judge a bowler more easily than a batsman. We tend to underestimate a good bowler!

Asish Nehara is one of the best bowlers to have played for India. He was instrumental in the World Cup Win in 2011. He never gets upset.

Whether it is power play period or whether he has to bowl to ferocious batsmen like Gayle or DeVilliers, Nehra would bowl with 100% efforts without complaints.

As he happens to be left-handed bowler, most teams would like to include him.
